Viento

Baby Viento earned big credit from Emily and I yesterday as the valley was hotter than heck and ridiculously windy for this time of year–a true blast furnace. The plum tree was whipping about for hours. Wretched situation. This summer is a harbinger of just how limited our future has become. These birds won’t even migrate here by decade’s end.

After the wind finally died down, a big and obnoxious bird that have yet to identify began to menace near Viento’s area. I chased it off but it only bounced a few branches away. So I started to throw pebbles–and the same. This led to a three-hour vigil. Emily saw my work but I don’t expect a ton of leeway for it. She doesn’t want anyone around if possible, but have chased away larger, predatory birds and raptors as well as those jerky rufous hummingbirds that want to take over feeders or harass Emily as she feeds. She ought to put me on salary but only the paranoid survive, and anything Emily does is godhead by me.

What a day. That bastard bird was back this a.m. too but seemed to take less effort for détente. Will see. Today there is cloudcover and for once this summer we are not a burning furnace.
