In recent months I’ve begun to watch The Lakota Berenstain Bears again on weekend mornings when home and not opposed to television. To feel and enjoy the Lakota language without subtitles is a rare pleasure and the theme song sends my soul to the right place. I also love the song “Nehiyawetan” from Tansi! that they always play on Saturdays before the next show Little J & Big Cuz. These are ever more poignant as I read and remember Chief Leonard Crow Dog.
My thanks to the spectacular First Nations Experience for this “children’s” programming and a life-changing potpourri of profoundly important adult programming with penetrating and wise insights into indigenous peoples—and we are all indigenous peoples whether we know it or not—their endangered traditions and wisdoms of the heart.
Do yourself a favor and watch this finest of all television networks and please by any means support them.
A ho.
